Lights in the World

Thomas Edison was an American inventor whose creativity produced many remarkable inventions. The light bulb, however, is the one with which he will forever be associated. With this invention, the world was revolutionized. Quite literally, men came out of darkness and were able to see what was before them.

God uses the concept of light to describe the faithful. To those who would follow Him, Jesus stated: “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house” (Matthew 5:14-15). Lights in the world are very much like the Edison light bulb. Their good works will help a darkened world to see God. While many may choose to stay in the dark, others will follow their righteous example and seek to glorify their Father in Heaven. Is your light shining?
