Perhaps there is no more important truth to be recognized about the beatitudes than the fact that they are not independent proverbs which apply to eight different groups of men, but are a composite description of every citizen in the kingdom of God.
God does not expect the impossible of us, but rather teaches us to allow Him to shape our lives so that we can be like Him.
In James 3, the writer uses some very emphatic language to illustrate the power of the tongue. When we can control the tongue, we can do incredible things, but when we don’t watch what we say, we can do incredible damage.
Things that seemed so important in the early years of life take on a different perspective as one grows older. One soon realizes that “life” is not the things that held sway over thoughts in the early years; instead, it is primarily the little things that can seem so mundane at the time.
Most of us have come to recognize that growing up involves developing mentally and emotionally as well as physically. Unfortunately, some have not learned this and we sometimes see little people living in grown bodies!
