AVOID THE SLOTH OF THE SLUGGARD

“As the door turns on its hinges, so does the sluggard on his bed. The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; He is weary of bringing it to his mouth again” (Prov 26:14-15).

As we enjoy Labor Day Weekend, we read that those taking government assistance has increased substantially in recent years. Some may really need it but some seem to have forgotten a good, self-respecting work ethic. The Sluggard is the tragic sloth of Proverbs, who is so lazy that he drifts through life undisciplined, unmotivated, and riddled with creative excuses to justify failure. Let’s learn from his mistakes and “whatever you do, do it heartily as unto the Lord” (Col 3:23).

“The sluggard says, ‘There is a lion outside, I shall be slain in the streets’” (Prov 22:13).
