WHEN ALL AROUND MY SOUL GIVES WAY
“I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble” (Psa 59:16).
From the Hymn, ON CHRIST THE SOLID ROCK I STAND:
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.
I like to go through and read various hymns in my morning devotional. Most are very beautiful poetry, often written in trying times of personal crisis. I find it interesting that atheists have no songs. When Paul and Silas wounds were throbbing in a Philippian jail (Acts 16:24-25), they still praised God for His greatness and His goodness. The Lord is greater than any problem that we face.
David’s Psalm 59 shows us how to handle a crisis, when Saul sent men to kill him. When all around us gives way, and there seems to be no escape, I can use every bad situation as an opportunity to strengthen my relationship with the Lord. He is always near to help and mighty to save.
“To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; For God is my defense, My God of mercy” (Psa 59:17).
